It pretty much is already, this is just a formality to let folks know if they are reading and aren't friended you're only seeing some boring stuff.  From this point all posts will be friends only.

Comment to be added.

Cutting down the friends list

  • Jul. 25th, 2009 at 10:42 AM
see you later
My reading time is short, my attn span is even shorter. I'm culling the friends list  of people I don't know r/l for this reason.

I have also kept r/l friends on here and filtered them out of posts to avoid drama. I'm not going to keep filtering like that. If you are one of those, I wish you well. We are not that close anymore.

eta: If you think I've made an error, by all means speak up :)

The Political Views of One Suburban Mom

[info]az_starshine  posted this on her LJ.   obama supporter vandalized

I wish I could say I was shocked, I'm not.  I'm saddened and frankly worried what these hatemonger will do if Obama is elected.
Living on the fringes of metro Atlanta I know my views are in the minority.   The McCain/Family signs are everywhere. Only today did I see one small single Obama sign.  I have even seen a home made "Nobama" sign.

My mother always says, "No one needs to know how you vote." So have I put up a sign? No, frankly I think posting my views in the front yard will not do a damn thing for the Obama Ticket.  It isn't something I need to do. However when the assistant at my optometrist tells me how "terrified she is that Obama will be elected" and that the "Russian party (??don't ask me, she was very vague??)) didn't even put out a candidate because Obama fit the ticket" I am really clear what my views are and why.

My neighbor, the one I call the wicked witch, made sure to hang her rebel flag out when the house across the street was up for sale, and again when the house next to her was up for rent. Yep... she's a real... well anyway.  I know the environment I live in, we all smile and politely wave, but I have my moments of feeling absolutely appalled at how shortsighted people can be.

Why is it I don't hear more things like, "Its not about race or gender, its the policy that's important" in the carpool, in the church, the ball field  or even the grocery store in my small community? Yes here in the south we speak to each other, complete strangers standing in line at the store will strike up a conversation about anything. Yes I've even had some "polite" political conversations with these same folks.  Here's what I notice, my friends, my family, and some of  my social community have similar views. The folks I live around, not so much.

Is there a point to any of this hate? Is there a point to being afraid of a candidate? Are we falling into a trap that some public media sets? The shows that love to entice us through the commercial break with the possibility of one more thing to be afraid of.  So much of the media strikes me as propaganda, so much of it is distraction techniques to avoid what is really going on. Lipstick anyone?

I am not uncomfortable living in the political minority of my community. Heck, I live in the social minority of my community as it is, just by simply being me. I don't work outside the home, I am a practicing bisexual, I am in a long term polyamorous relationship, I am a practicing non church goer, I don't drink Coke or Pepsi, I don't eat potato chips, I'm not interested in sports,  I believe the term "terrorist" is a form of propaganda, and my activities outside of the home are much much different than my neighbors.

Still, my goals for this country do not seem much different from that woman in my optometrist office, the elderly man bagging my groceries or even the pastor at the church my son goes to preschool at.  We want our country to succeed, we want our men and women to stop dieing in wars, we want a financially stable country, we want a leader who is intelligent and isn't  corrupt and most importantly we want the political/social/economic envoroment to calm down.

I'm not much for discussing politics. I keep tabs the best I can. This is clearly the most interesting election we've had since I started voting a mere 14 years ago.  Its nice to see so many people paying attn, its great to see passion even if their political leanings are different.  I just think we can have passion with out the hate and narrowminded attitudes.

Chrome from a General users perspective

I'm using Google's beta internet browser Chrome. While I am far far from having much computer knowlage I can offer some positives and negatives with this set up.

Pros
I keep several tabs open at once regularly.  On Windows IE if one website crashes, it crashes all my IE windows that are open. That is not occuring with Chrome.
I don't have 2 inches of toolbar taking over my screen.
The web address bar can also be used at the search engine bar.
Open up a new tab and wha-la, the most visited sites are available. As well as most recent bookmarks.

Cons
I cannot use my LJ custom filters. I can either go public, friends or private.
I have yet to figure out how to manipulate the "Customize Links" section. The help instructions appear to be for Vista users, I am not.   The links listed at the top of the page are not pages I visit very often. (my grandmothers obit, Colorado Prision Inmate Locator, and a dead link from colorado 9 news.)
The bookmarks list is in alpha order.  I would prefer to organize them in my own way.  I haven't figured that out yet either.

If I could use my LJ filters correctly and fix the bookmarking issue I would use Chrome only. Because I can't I'll use both together for awhile and see what happens.

Right now I'm giving it a C+, I'll up the grade if I can figure out how to change the current bookmarking issue.

friending frenzy

thanks to [info]popfiend and his fiendish friending frenzy I have a slew of new ppl on my LJ f list.

Hi howdy! The girlscout in me says to make new friends! ;)

If you have read my profile and perhaps even peeked at my icons, you'll see that my interests are diverse. I would consider myself the "non standard stay at home mom." I have a great marriage of 13 years, 3 children that keep me jumping, running and sometimes even screaming.  I also have fur babies in this household one Wundermutt border collie and a cat I should have named Shutup instead of Max.

I do typically blog about the day to day life stuff. I am also working on a spiritual journey. I don't have a particular direction in mind, so this could be interesting. I also partake in some "Adult Activities" that are with in the rules of my marriage, but are also non standard for the general population.  If you want to be on my Adult filter please speak up. Right now the folks I have added are not on that filter at all. I figured I'd let ya'll ask to be corrupted ;)

I'm blunt, I curse, I spell horribly.  Many of the ppl on my F list I know real life and brace yourself I have a clan of Six Sisters that are family by choice. They will amaze and astound.

this is a friends only journal, but for the time being I'll leave this post public :)
